Windshield defrosters have been around for almost as long insides of automobiles have been heated. Rear window defrosters have been around for decades. Eventually, someone thought it would be nice to attach heated mirrors to cars.

Eventually, someone thought it would be nice to attach heated mirrors to cars.

Most heated mirrors attach to the electric elements that control a car’s rear defroster. When the rear defroster is turned on, the heating elements in the mirrors should be active. Keeping ice and fog off side view mirrors allows a driver to more easily see vehicles and other dangers behind him when weather conditions are inclement, simply by applying a small amount of heat to the glass surface of the side mirrors. Electrical elements in the mirrors heat the surface of the glass. The heat evaporates moisture on the surface and melts any ice that has built up. Unfortunately heated mirrors occasionally will heat unevenly or worse yet… Not at all.

Replacing the entire mirror head assembly will definitely fix this problem, however that can be quite costly. Why replace the entire mirror, if the mirror is not the problem? It is most likely that the heating element behind the glass surface has gone bad, so why not simply replace that?

Baby Moon Hubcaps available at HubcapsPlus.com.There is definitely a retro styling trend in the automotive industry today, as evidenced by the popularity of the throwback designs of the new Mustang, the new Challenger and the new Camaro, it seems that everything that was old is new again! It would seem that consumers are hearkening back to their glory days, trying to recapture at least a part of their youth.

So it’s no surprise at all that there has been a renewed interest in baby moon hubcaps… You remember baby moon hubcaps don’t you? Those chrome smoothies gleaming in the sun usually coupled with extra wide whitewalls… They were the epitome of cool! Well folks guess what? They are the epitome of cool again.

If you want to give your ride a new look with retro style this is an easy choice… There are however a few things to keep in mind. Baby moon hubcaps don’t attach like regular hubcaps, they are held on via the nubs found on the crown of your wheel. If you are replacing an existing set of baby moon hubcaps, the easiest way to determine the size is to just take baby moon hubcap off of the wheel, flip it over and measure the inside diameter of the cap. If you don’t have existing baby moons, then use the diagrams below.

Baby Moon installation instructions.

The rule of thumb for fitment is as follows:

If your measurement is between 8″ & 9″, then the 8″ baby moon hubcaps will be compatible.

If your measurement is between 9″ & 10″, then the 9″ baby moon hubcaps will be compatible.

If your measurement is 10″ & up, then the 10″ baby moon hubcaps will be compatible.

One of the questions I get asked quite often is…

“How do I remove the broken mirror glass from my sideview mirror?”

It’s a good question, especially if you’ve never done it before, and don’t quite know what to expect.  But trust me it’s not that difficult as long as you follow these simple guidelines…

First make sure you have the right tool for the job.  You’re going to need something long and flat like a wide flat head screw driver, putty knife or a scraper.

Next, the broken mirror glass is much easier to remove if you loosen the adhesive first.  This can be done quite easily by applying a little heat.  If you have a propane torch you can use that, however a heat gun or hairdryer will also work nicely.

Make sure to put on the appropriate protetctive eyewear and gloves and start heating the mirror slowly, you’ll notice the adhesive behind the mirror will loosen.  Slide the screwdriver, putty knife, or the scraper under the mirror and pull all the broken pieces from the backing plate.  Once all of the broken glass is removed from the side view mirror backing plate you’re going to want to clean the backing plate thoroughly with some isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol before installing the new replacement sideview mirror glass.  You’re now ready to apply the new replacement sideview mirror glass!

And that’s that! Couldn’t be easier right???

If you have a Dodge Caravan then you know its dirty little secret. The Dodge Caravan hubcaps are prone to coming off at the most inopportune times. In fact the Dodge Caravan throws more hubcaps than any other vehicle I know! I’m not sure if it’s just a flawed concept and completely unintentional or if it’s a sinister plot to get consumers to purchase more hubcaps… Either way it amounts to a serious pain in the neck… And in the pocketbook for Dodge Caravan owners.

Replacement Caravan hubcaps, if purchased from a dealership can run you upwards of $75.00 per cap! That can run into quite a bit of scratch after several lost caps.

But did you know that replica hubcaps are available for almost every make and model vehicle on the road today? Including Dodge Caravan replica hubcaps? Replica hubcaps are designed to resemble factory hubcaps in almost every way with one BIG difference… Replica hubcaps usually run about 75% less then the factory caps from a dealer.

Granted as they are replica hubcaps they will not have the manufacturers logo. Logos are the legal trademark of the individual manufacturer or manufacturers, and as such it would be trademark infringement to include them on a replica cap. But for the cost of one factory hubcap you can generally purchase an entire set of four replica hubcaps!

Look at what is available for Dodge Caravan owners…

Set of Four Replica 1996 - 2000 15 inch Dodge Caravan and Dodge Mini Van Hubcaps

A Set of Four Replica 1996 – 2000 15 inch Dodge Caravan and Dodge Mini Van Hubcaps for $49.99 Shipped!

Set of Four Replica 1996 - 1999 16 inch Dodge Caravan Hubcaps and Dodge Mini Van Hubcaps

A Set of Four Replica 1996 – 1999 16 inch Dodge Caravan Hubcaps and Dodge Mini Van Hubcaps for $52.99 Shipped!

Don’t pay dealership prices to replace those lost Dodge Caravan hubcaps! Buy replicas instead!

Today I want to share with you the fastest, easiest and most economical way to replace your broken driver side mirror glass or broken passenger side mirror glass, and best of all, you can replace it yourself, rather than having the dealership replace the entire mirror head assembly…  Im’ talking about Burco Fit Over Replacement Automotive Mirror Glass of course!

Below I have listed the steps along with a simple diagram for replacing a broken side mirror with a one of our Burco Fit Over Replacement Automotive Mirror Glasses

Burco® Fit Over Replacement Automotive Mirror Glass

Burco® Fit Over Replacement Automotive Mirror Glass

The mirror glass is encased or bonded to the inner backing plate which is mounted inside the mirror head.  The broken mirror is to remain in the backing plate, but loose pieces should be removed.

  1. Dry fit (test fit) Burco Fit Over replacement mirror glass in opening to check proper fit.
  2. Carefully clean broken mirror surface with Burco Window Glo or other urethane-safe glass cleaner.
  3. Apply Burco Redi Stick adhesive patches to the back of the replacement mirror and place over the existing broken mirror.  If using a silicone or urethane apply directly to broken mirror surface and clamp assembly until cured.
  4. Clean the installed Burco Fit Over replacement mirror glass with Burco Window Glo or other urethane-safe glass cleaner.
  5. NOTE: For electrochromic mirror fit-over replacements, the self-dimming feature of the original mirror is eliminated, but its heat feature remains functional.

And that’s that! Couldn’t be easier right???
